In partnership with United Way Bay Area, SparkPoint San José coordinated with faculty, staff, and leadership from Evergreen Valley College and San José City College to host a Career Prep Workshop in the Technology Center of San José City College on Friday, Oct. 6, 2017. Texas Instruments and Ernst & Young supplied over 50 volunteers to work directly with students on one-on-one career coaching sessions for our students in four content areas:
1) Resume Building
2) Career Exploration
3) Job Search Tips
4) Mock Interviewing
Participating students had an opportunity to meet current professionals from industry for an insider's track on how to take the next steps toward their career goals. This event was promoted at SJCC and EVC as well as partner adult schools and about 70 students registered to receive services. SparkPoint San José not only works with students to meet immediate needs for financial stability services and resources, it leverages the relationships United Way Bay Area brings to bear for increasing opportunities for our students' futures.
Special thanks to Dr. William Watson and his team, including SparkPoint Director Vanessa Muñiz and all who supported this great event including: VPs Roland Montemayor & Adela Esquivel-Swinson, Victor Garza, Fabio Gonzalez, Daniel Garza, Lisa Brillon, Rosalie Ledesma, Michelle Marcelo, Alex Duran, Megan Crossfield, All METAS Staff and Counselors, Tam Nguyen, Gina Riccitelli, Corrine Gonzales, and Shana Carter.
This event is just the latest example of how SparkPoint is creatively and effectively helping us prepare our students for life beyond college.
